Stephen F. Hiu, Ph.D.
President and Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Hiu is President and Chief Technology Officer of Igene Biotechnology, Inc. and Chief Technology Officer of Naturxan LLC. At Igene, he has served as Chief Technology Officer since 2002, and has served as President of the Company since 1999. Joining Igene in 1986 as a Senior Scientist in strain development, he was appointed Director of Research and Development and member of the Board of Directors in 1990.

Dr. Hiu received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences cum laude from the University of California, Irvine. He subsequently served as Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant in the Department of Microbiology at Oregon State University where he received his doctoral degree in 1984. From 1984 to 1986 he served as a postdoctoral Research Associate at Virginia Tech conducting research on the microbial physiology of anaerobic bacteria for the production of biofuels.

Patrick F. Monahan,
Vice President and Dir. of Manufacturing

Mr. Monahan brings more than thirty years of experience in microbial strain improvement and fermentation process development as Vice President of Igene Biotechnology (since 2002), and as Director of Manufacturing (since 1991) after joining Igene in 1982 as Manager of the fermentation pilot plant.

As Director of Manufacturing, Mr. Monahan was responsible for the first commercial scale up and production of Igene's astaxanthin product first in Chile, and then in Mexico. He was among the first to promote and introduce the astaxanthin product for use in salmon and trout in Chile and the United States. Mr. Monahan also serves as Vice President of Program Management for Naturxan LLC and has contributed to multiple patents for Igene and Naturxan. Before joining Igene, Mr. Monahan worked at W.R. Grace as Manager of the fermentation lab.

He received an A.A. degree in Biology from Allegany College and a B.S. degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Frostburg University in Frostburg, Maryland.

Edward J. Weisberger,
Chief Financial Officer

Edward Weisberger brings 25 years of experience to his current role as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Igene Biotechnology since December 2001, and serves concurrently as the Chief Financial Officer of Naturxan LLC. He has worked in all facets of financial strategy and planning, development and design of accounting systems and procedures, and new venture management accounting.

Previously, Mr. Weisberger was a financial consultant for Deloitte & Touche, with a focus on providing financial leadership to S&P 500 companies. He served in multiple key leadership roles with increasing responsibility including Director of Corporate accounting for CarrAmerica, Controller and Tax Manager for First Data Investor Services, Senior Tax Manager for Host Marriott and Senior Accountant for MCI.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Weisberger worked in public accounting. He received his BS degree in accounting from State University of New York in 1986 and earned his CPA in the State of Maryland.
