Senior Science Director (May 2010)
Reporting to Igene’s President & Chief Technology Officer, the Senior Science Director is a key advisor to the CTO on the Science Innovation Portfolio. This individual independently develops and executes research programs in yeast strain development with a significant knowledge base on metabolic programming. This individual will also manage the Strain Development Team, and serve as liaison between the Strain Development team, Analytical and QC team, Pilot Plant team to scale-up fermentation processes for the commercial production of astaxanthin, and the VP of Program Management to assure all development projects are delivered in a timely fashion. The Senior Science Director also actively manages the development, planning, assessment, execution and timely delivery of the Science Innovation Portfolio of defined projects and technologies with a focus on yeast strain improvements to support all business goals including end point customer satisfaction. This position will also require full spectrum collaboration with significant contributions to the optimization, design and analysis of fermentation processes for scale-up to commercial levels across multiple functions.
Minimum Requirements
- Foundation in Microbiology, with a Doctoral degree in Microbial Physiology or Fermentation Engineering. Minimum 10 years of professional experience related to fermentation or process development and scale-up from pilot plant fermentors to commercial sized fermentors
- Demonstrate knowledge and practical experience in metabolic engineering and biochemical pathway analysis in yeast systems, and production of hyper producing strains for production of commercially useful compounds applied to nutraceutical or livestock feed markets
- Hands-on experience driving science programs to commercial application (incorporating technical, strategic and financial issues) while meeting aggressive business goals
- Experience developing and managing an Innovation Science Portfolio
- Ability to motivate and foster thoughtful, effective innovation in all relationships
- Track record demonstrating effective communication and organizational team work with project management and troubleshooting skills developed in large and small company environments
- Possess a passion for excellence and a work ethic that inspires others to achieve. Must be willing and able to take on additional responsibilities tied to business dynamics and manage priorities with minimal guidance
