Animal Nutrition

Within animal nutrition, our current focus is to deliver high quality astaxanthin to the fish feed market. While the aquaculture industry was once dependent on synthetic, non-renewable sources of astaxanthin to achieve the signature pink color of wild salmon, naturally sourced Aquasta® has proven to be as effective as synthetic astaxanthin through tests of feed production, storage, and in commercial field trials involving fresh, frozen and smoked fish such as Atlantic Salmon, Coho Salmon, and Rainbow Trout. Our naturally sourced astaxanthin is also used for pigmentation of other species such as sea bream, shrimp, poultry and egg yolks.
The Aquaculture industry has grown at an annual rate of 10-20% over the past 10 years. This growth has been possible due to an increased consumer awareness of beneficial health effects from marine environment food.
Astaxanthin found in shellfish and fatty fish such as salmon are proven to have a positive impact on human health, especially the cardiovascular system.
The formation of Naturxan LLC with our joint venture partner Archer Daniels Midland helps ensure that we can now provide feed manufacturers and fish producers around the world with a stable, year-round supply of high quality, industry-tested naturally sourced astaxanthin. With access to ADM’s premiere production and transportation network and distribution centers, Aquasta® can be delivered reliably wherever and whenever it is needed around the world.
